How to Stop Spam

Hearts and Minds does not spam because:

  • Like a parasite, it clogs up computers and servers.
  • It wastes time and interferes with productive, helpful activities.
  • It's often used for sleazy products.

Ways to help stop spam:

  • Pledge yourself not to send spam or buy from it.
  • Complain to your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Often they have an address like abuse@companyname.com.
When you forward a spam to abuse prevention, show "extended headers" to help them trace the spammer. You may find out how to do this under "Options" or "Tools" then "Options." For Eudora or Netscape Mail, see: http://help.mindspring.com/features/emailheaders/extended.htm Or ask your e-mail program for help on how to do this.
  • Many ISPs offer free spam-blocking upon request. It may be available from their home pages.
  • Get spam protection software - we’re currently using Mail Washer, available free off the Internet.
  • DO NOT reply to the spammer. That confirms you're a "live" address. It can be used again and sold to other spammers.
  • Here are websites to help you stop spam.
