Please read the following. It clarifies how Hearts and Minds, our writers and volunteers work together:

• People at Hearts and Minds may work with you to help improve your articles by sharing techniques to improve your writing and communications skills. There is no charge for this. There is also no charge or payment for the article(s) you write. The article(s) you work on for Hearts and Minds are for its unlimited use in any media and for all purposes. If you allow Hearts and Minds to retain the © copyright, it may still allow you to have the article published elsewhere.
   

• There is no charge or payment for any exchange or use of ideas with Hearts and Minds staff and volunteers. Any ideas that you suggest to help Hearts and Minds are for its unlimited use without obligation.
   

• Hearts and Minds will try to give you appropriate credit for your article and other help that you provide, but you agree to let us decide how to do so.
   

• We hope to keep your article online for a year or more and to have it reach thousands of people, but we cannot guarantee how long it will remain on our website or whether it will be published in future publications. We also cannot guarantee that its position or layout will be as you would have preferred it to be.
   

• All submissions are subject to editing and changes. Additional contributions on your subject from other writers may be added and may even replace your article. Information from your article may be used in other articles.
   

• You will be given the opportunity to give feedback as we edit your article, but you agree that final editing decisions will be made by Hearts and Minds. However, we will not ask you to attach your name to any ideas that you oppose, with the understanding that you will inform us of any objections well before we go on-line or publish the article in our magazine.
   

• Your reasonable costs for telephone, copying, transportation, etc. may be paid if you inform us ahead of time and we authorize the specific expenses. We need to see receipts.
   

• It is suggested that you limit your volunteer time with us to a reasonable number of hours per week. Of course, volunteering with Hearts and Minds should not interfere with work and other life responsibilities.
   

• Although we hope you'll follow through on your article, you can discontinue volunteering at any time for any reason. We do ask that you give as much notice as possible if we're counting on a specific contribution from you. We also ask you to give us the research or writing you did thus far. You still will be given credit proportional to what you've done.
   

• Hearts and Minds may change without notice its Notes and Conditions from time to time.
   

• You will provide us only with material that originates with you. Any material copied from other sources needs Hearts and Minds' prior consent in order to be included.
   

• All the above applies even if Hearts and Minds changes its name or merges with another organization.
   

• Let us know if you have any questions on these or any other Hearts and Minds matters. We're here to help.
   

• We very much appreciate your volunteer help.  If there's any way Hearts and Minds can be improved or we can make your volunteer experience with us more fulfilling, please let us know.
