       A national, non-profit organization that educates people about anxiety and depression. It has an anxiety screening test which is evaluated by a professional for free (by mail or over the web) to give an idea of whether a person may be suffering from clinical anxiety or depression. The organization has meetings at its office and treatment center in Staten Island, New York. It also sells treatment programs in the form of manuals to be followed in group therapy that can also be used by individuals.
       The website has a web-based screening test, information on the symptoms and treatments for anxiety and depression, an interactive tool for getting a referral to the nearest anxiety clinic anywhere in the USA, message boards for FFF clients, and news about upcoming events at FFF.

 NAMI is a national support, education, and advocacy organization on behalf of the mentally ill. It provides information on the major mental illnesses, lobbies for legislation to benefit people with mental illnesses on the national, state, and local level, sponsors anti-stigma and education campaigns about mental illness, and has a network of local affiliates that provide direct support to people with mental illness and their families. Call the national number or look on the website to find the nearest local affiliate (the state affiliates listed on the website have local affiliates all over the state; call the state numbers to get details.)
       NAMI also sponsors the Family-to-Family course, a free 12-week course about mental illness for family members that teaches medical information in depth as well as coping skills.
       The website has news about mental illness ranging from information about new drugs to legal and public policy notes, and also NAMI events, such as the annual convention. There is information about the symptoms of mental illness and their treatment.
       Useful site where you can connect with others, read updated information, give donations and look through volunteer opportunities. -DHB

NAMI NYC runs support groups for individuals and family members of people with mental illness.  The helpline answers calls from people with mental illness and family members who have questions regarding symptoms of mental illness, who want advice on questions such as how to cope with symptoms, how to get a loved one to take medicine or to go to the hospital, or most often, who need a referral for mental health housing, legal help on a question relating to mental illness, day treatment, hospitalization, outpatient care, etc. The helpline can only give referrals and advice for how to get help within the five boroughs of New York City.
       The website has lots of information on resources in New York City, medical information, an Ask-the-Doctor column, information on meetings and support groups, information on advocacy issues, and updates on mental illness in the news. Much better than the national NAMI site.
         This website is helpful for those who live in the New York City area. It is easy to navigate and also gives you links to facilities and housing amongst other services. The page can also be translated in Spanish. -TOD

The site has the basic symptoms and medications used to treat it, detailed articles on how to cope with particular symptoms (e.g. paranoia, command hallucinations, negative symptoms) and issues (violence, depression, smoking) that come up when someone has schizophrenia, success stories from people who have the illness and are doing well, discussion forums for patients and families separated out by category of user and topic, chat rooms, and free web hosting for anyone who has schizophrenia. The site was built by Brian Chiko in memory of his brother, who died of suicide due to schizophrenia.
