We humans have trouble understanding abstractions. It’s easier to move people to give a quarter to a beggar – even though we suspect such “donations” often go for alcohol or drugs – than to contribute to organizations that really help the homeless put their lives together.
Moving people to end extreme poverty and hunger is harder, even when the fate of hundreds of millions of people – and our own survival – may depend on this.
Why global poverty threatens us
1.2 billion people in extreme poverty. This threatens massive refugee crises, disease epidemics, even large-scale war and terrorism. Any one of these can threaten our lives, too.
The solution
We need to give a small percentage of our wealth to help those who were not lucky enough to be born with our opportunities. This will make our own world safer, and wealthier too. Here’s more info:
